Yet Another Mass Shooting in Colorado…

To our DYD members and fellow Coloradans,

We find ourselves once again looking for the proper ways to grieve over yet another senseless tragedy in our state.

Colorado has fallen victim to an inexcusable number of mass shootings, and year after year we continue to ask ourselves what, if anything, can be done. And while we still have more questions than answers as to why the events of Monday occurred... here's what we know for certain:

  • Since 1982, Colorado has seen the 5th highest number of mass shootings in the United States.

  • In an average year, 805 Coloradans will lose their lives at the hand of a gun.

  • Gun deaths in Colorado have increased by 32% between 2010 and 2019.

  • And lastly, the gun used in Monday's tragedy, purchased just 6 days earlier, would have been illegal under Boulder's now void assault rifle ban.

We refuse to stand idly by without doing everything in our power to end the gun violence epidemic that is plaguing our state.
